Ads do two things you do not want: they break your concentration, and they usually track you to target the next one. A handful of apps simply refuse them. Why no ads matters
An ad is rarely just an ad. To target it, an app or its ad network usually collects an advertising identifier and a trail of what you do, which is tracking by another name. Removing third-party ads removes that whole machinery, so an app like these is quieter on screen and quieter about you. It also respects the moment: you are editing a photo or calming your breathing, not dodging a banner from an ad network or waiting out a tracked interstitial.
How ad-free apps stay free
If an app is not selling ads, it is funded another way: a one-time purchase, an optional subscription, or simply made independently. FOC is free with no ads and no purchases at all.
