Plenty of apps make you create an account before you can do anything, handing over an email and a password just to try a photo editor or a breathing exercise. It does not have to be that way. Why no account is better
An account is a liability you take on for the app's convenience. It is one more password, one more database that can leak, and usually the hook that lets an app follow you across sessions. An app that needs no account cannot tie your activity to an identity, because there is no identity to tie it to. You also start faster: no email, no verification code, no onboarding wall between you and the thing you opened the app to do.
How to tell before you install
The App Store privacy label is the quickest tell. An app marked "Data Not Collected" generally has no account system behind it. "Sign in with Apple" as the only option is better than email and password, but no account at all is simpler still. When in doubt, open the app: if it works immediately with no sign-up screen, you have your answer.
