Debating, arguing a position, pushes your German past small talk: you have to give reasons, disagree, and respond on the spot. On the iPhone, KLUG has a debate mode where the AI takes the opposing side on everyday topics, on the device, as part of the course.
Why debate builds fluency
Ordering a coffee uses set phrases; arguing whether cities beat the countryside makes you build sentences you have never rehearsed. You reach for 'because', 'on the other hand', 'I disagree', the connective tissue of real conversation. Because it is low-stakes practice with a patient partner, you can take risks you would not take with a stranger.
